Meet Michael Whitehead
What is your title at Badgley Phelps?
Client Service Associate
Over your time at Badgley Phelps, how has your approach to assisting clients evolved?
I would say that having conversations with clients has allowed me to tailor my support to them as individuals. My approach has always been to assist them on their path to success in any way I can, but it becomes much smoother after we’ve spoken a few times.
What do you enjoy doing outside of the office?
In the past year, I’ve come to love Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and train as much as I can. The problem-solving aspect of the sport is reminiscent of a chess match, and it’s incredibly rewarding. During the warmer months, golfing with friends also tops the list.
What do you think contributes to your ability to stay composed and productive in high-pressure moments?
I’ve come to learn that being surrounded by caring teammates is invaluable. In the event of a high-pressure situation, I know I can reach out to anyone for support and come up with a solution. Having a solid team is always going to be the best answer in those moments and helps me carry confidence for success.
How do you think your military background informs the way you show up for clients day-to-day?
Having served six years in the Army Reserve, resilience is something I’ve carried with me into my professional career. For me, being able to bounce back from a mistake or hardship has been necessary when tackling daily tasks, as well as long-term goals.
Client services require strong attention to detail and the ability to juggle competing priorities. How do you stay organized and manage your workflow?
I like to write things down. I find that even if I don’t revisit what I wrote, I’m far more likely to stay on course after I put pen to paper.
What’s your favorite restaurant in Seattle, and what makes it a standout for you?
Royal Grinders in Fremont is my go-to for an outstanding sandwich. Their perfectly toasted bread and incredible cheese pull make it especially comforting on a rainy Seattle afternoon—I always recommend it!
What advice would you give to someone interested in a career in client services?
I’d say that developing the ability to anticipate questions and needs puts you in a strong position to succeed. Both clients and colleagues truly appreciate a proactive approach. It’s a skill I’m still refining myself, but I believe mastering it early on will pay dividends.
What keeps you motivated in your work?
Once again, I’m turning to my teammates here at Badgley. Seeing their commitment and the relationships they’ve built with clients over the years has been incredibly motivating for my work and what the future holds.
If you had to teach a class on one topic (professional or personal), what would it be and why?
Professional – Balance and Burnout Prevention
Preventing burnout is key for me and my overall well-being. While balancing school, a part-time job, military duties, and college athletics, I learned effective strategies to manage it.
Personal – Game Theory in the Real World
I have always loved behavioral economics and game theory. There’s a lot of information that can explain the world around us and the choices we make along the way.
Final Thoughts
Michael’s adaptability, attention to detail, and team-first mindset are core to the experience we aim to deliver at Badgley Phelps. His commitment to growth—personally and professionally—sets a great example for all of us.
